Couple finds lost wedding ring in Milton aftermath

(WJW) — While most stories concerning a hurricane are that of loss and devastation, one story from Florida is all about a remarkable discovery.

Laura and Basil Yorio of Palm Bay, Florida were forced to leave their home before the powerful storm made landfall, according to PEOPLE.

After Hurricane Milton came ashore as a Category 3 storm, the Yorio’s returned home to find a wedding ring that’d been lost for nearly a decade.

According to WOFL in Orlando, the couple noticed the small band on the ground in their backyard as they were assessing damage from the storm. Laura told the news station that her husband had lost the ring nine years ago during a construction project.

Laura said the ring was embedded in the dirt, telling the new outlet that she initially thought it was a key ring.

“We’ve been here 1,000 times over the last nine years,” she told WOFL. “I have a landscaper who comes once a week, every week, for nine years. Nothing.”

The ring is now safely back on Basil’s finger, carrying with a story he and his wife will soon not forget.

While Laura remains mindful of the destruction Hurricane Milton caused, she said she can’t help but believe the storm is what made the discovery possible.
