Motorcycle crashes into vehicle at stop sign in fatal crash

REPUBLIC, Ohio (WJW) – A man has died after crashing his motorcycle into a vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign in Seneca County.

According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol , the crash happened Friday at 2:05 p.m. on State Route 19 at State Route 18 in the Village of Republic.

According to the release, 71-year-old William Owsley was heading south on State Route 19 on a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he crashed into a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado that was stopped at the stop sign for SR-18.

Owsley’s motorcycle hit the Chevy from behind.

According to the release, Owsley was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital by Life Flight, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday.

The woman driving the Chevy was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. According to the release, she sustained minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, according to the release.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
