2 dead after house explosion, fire near Sidney

SIDNEY , Ohio (WDTN) — Early Tuesday morning, crews responded to a large fire in Sidney.

According to our partners at the Sidney Daily News , a home exploded in the 17000 block of Sharp Road at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday. Debris from the fire was tossed hundreds of feet away.

Multiple fire department agencies were on the scene to help extinguish the flames.

A married couple was in the home at the time of the incident and are confirmed dead, according to authorities. The Shelby County coroner identified the victims as Sherry Tracy, 57, and Thomas Tracy Jr., 56.

Since the incident, crews have been on the scene processing evidence and taking pictures.

Local residents were advised to avoid the area due to the large-scale emergency scene. Neighbors who live nearby said they could see flames from their homes following the explosion.

“Yeah, it was a glowing fireball. And again, it looked like it was right there in my neighborhood. That’s how big it was, just a red hot glow,” said neighbor Andrew Jimenez.

The cause of the explosion and subsequent fire remains under investigation.
