I-Team: Retired federal agent speed camera ticket thrown out

LINNDALE, Ohio (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has found a speed camera ticket dismissed for a retired federal agent battling cancer.

We learned the ticket was thrown out of court after we showed it should have gone to another driver.

The court fixed a mistake made by Linndale Police.

Last week, we showed you a speed camera ticket sent to the family of Keith Martin, a retired DEA agent fighting cancer.

He suddenly had this ticket to battle even though the car on the ticket does not match the Martin family vehicle.

The Linndale Police Chief told us Martin would have to go to court.

But now, the Village Prosecutor has dismissed the ticket.

Keith Martin tell us he’s very grateful for that and an end to all of this.

“It feels great. I know it wasn’t our vehicle in the citation. It did not belong to us. I’m very appreciative of the I-Team and what you guys have done,” he said. “After spending nearly 27 years in law enforcement, it’s just a little shocking to me  the sloppiness at the way these tickets are dispersed. Somebody should be reviewing them. There should be some checks and balances.”

Village Prosecutor Dean DePiero released a statement saying:

“From time to time, as Village Prosecutor, I am asked to review photo citations that are civil in nature.  When I do, I review the circumstances and the individual involved.  Based upon all the factors, I believe it is in the interest of fairness to dismiss this matter.”
