Watch tow truck haul away massive great white shark near Cape Cod

ORLEANS, Mass. (WJW) – An unexpected discovery on a beach near Cape Cod led to an unusual assignment for officers.

The Orleans Police Department was called this week about a great white shark that had washed ashore.

The shark was so big, they had to call in a tow truck to move it.

The incident was shared on the department’s Facebook page with the caption, “You really never know what kind of call you’ll respond to on any given shift.”

Photos accompanying the post show the shark positioned upside down on the back of the tow truck, which gives a clue as to the creature’s impressive size.

Another image captured the tow truck driving away with the shark in the back.

The police department added, “At least Sgt. Elliott only needed to follow the tow truck and didn’t have to wrestle an unruly Great White.”

The cause of the shark’s stranding is still under investigation.

According to National Geographic , a great white can grow up to 21 feet and weigh as much as 4,500 pounds.

They can live as long as 70 years.
