Police: Juveniles arrested with guns near Frank Jacinto Elementary School in Lorain

LORAIN , Ohio (WJW) — Lorain police officers arrested two boys who were allegedly carrying guns near Frank Jacinto Elementary School on Thursday.

Staff members approached the boys outside Lorain High School along Ashland Avenue, believing they were carrying guns, according to a news release from Lorain police Capt. Jacob Morris.

When school resource officers were notified, the boys fled on foot toward the elementary school. A worker there saw the boys throw the guns over a fence, according to the release.

Officers caught up with the suspects in a nearby backyard south of the elementary school. They were transported to the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home, charged with “multiple offenses, including weapons charges,” reads the release.

Both the high and elementary schools were placed on a brief lockdown “for precautionary reasons,” reads the release.

“The Lorain Police Department commends the Lorain City Schools staff members for their commitment to the safety and security of all who attend, visit and work in our schools,” wrote Morris.
