New Franklin man gets life in prison for killing other man after fight

NEW FRANKLIN , Ohio (WJW) — A man who shot another man in the back, killing him will spend life in prison.

According to a release from the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, Eric Mendoza, 41, of New Franklin, will be eligible for parole after serving 18 years of his sentence.

In September 2022, after a brief verbal dispute, Mendoza shot and killed Jeffrey Fisher as Fisher was riding away from Mendoza’s home on Dailey Road in New Franklin.

Mendoza pleaded guilty to murder with a gun specification.

“I hope that this lengthy prison sentence will provide some comfort to Jeffrey’s family as the person responsible will spend a significant amount of time behind bars,” said Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich.
