Friday Night Touchdown Week 9 recap

(WJW) — Week 9 of the high school football season on Friday Night Touchdown is in the books.

FOX 8 crews were out across Northeast Ohio Friday night to bring you the best matchups in high school football.

Our Friday Night Touchdown Game of the Week was a matchup between Madison and Geneva. The Chagrin Valley Conference Lake Division Title was on the line.

Madison got off to a hot start. Will Randall Jr. connected with Mac Steele for a 26-yard gain to put the Steaks in the redzone. Randall threw to Alexander Davis for the touchdown.

On the kickoff, Ricky Dipetta ran 50 yards to put the Eagles in business. After a couple of first downs, Geneva puts the ball in the air, but Madison’s Tyler Alley makes them pay. On the next drive, Randall goes over the middle to Davis again – their second touchdown connection of the night.

But Geneva fired back. They put up 21 unanswered points to beat Madison, and the Eagles win the Lake Division with a final of 21-14.

Avon Lake hit the road to North Ridgeville for what turned out to be a defensive battle. It was 10-3 Rangers at the half. Second half, Avon Lake was on the move. Alex Affolter hit Nathan Haven for a catch to set up a Reece Polomsky 36-yard field goal. He had four field goals on the night including the winner. The Shoremen stun North Ridgeville 12-10.

Mayfield hosted Riverside and the Wildcats got their claws out for this one. They needed a win to make the playoffs. The Cats’ Ben Koret powered his way into the endzone for a touchdown. Then the Wildcats wanted to air it out, but Riverside’s Ethan Baker went the other way, finding himself inside the Mayfield 10. Then is was Kyndall McCaleb, off the fake, taking it in for Beaver touchdown. But Mayfield hangs on and gets the win 21-17.
