Fiscal Officer with Portage County Probate Court arrested

PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — The Portage County Probate Court has placed one of its officers on unpaid leave after she was arrested on theft allegations.

According to the court, Fiscal Officer Jennifer Urbania, who has been employed with the Court since July of 2024, completed the Court’s standard interview process and passed a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check before she was hired.

The allegations are unrelated to Urbania’s employment with the Portage County Probate Court or its finances, a release from the Court said, but Judge Patricia J. Smith has requested a full audit of financial records and accounts that Urbania had access to.

County Auditor Matt Kelly will oversee that process.
