Woman accused of stealing thousands from Hoover High School booster club

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – A former member of a local high school booster club was indicted on multiple charges for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the group, according to court documents.

According to an indictment filed in the Stark County Common Pleas Court earlier this month, 47-year-old Billie Jo Boyajian is charged by a grand jury with felony counts of grand theft, forgery and misuse of credit cards.

The indictment alleges that Boyajian stole booster funds from the Hoover Hoops Booster Club, which, according to its website , offers “financial support for the Hoover Boys Basketball program” at North Canton City Schools.

Boyajian is accused of stealing funds worth $7,500 to $150,000 between Jan. 1, 2019, and April 15, 2024, the indictment said.

She’s also accused of misusing a booster club credit card “as security for a debt,” according to the indictment.

Superintendent Jeff Wendorth of North Canton City Schools released the following statement to FOX 8 News:

“We have been made aware of the legal situation involving a former officer of one of our booster clubs. This matter is being investigated and organized by the North Canton Police Department and Stark County Prosecutor.

“District support organizations are defined as any non-profit entity, group, or other organization formed and operating for the purpose of supporting District programs.

“While these groups play a valuable role in enhancing the educational and athletic experience for our students, they operate separately from the school district.”

She is expected to be arraigned on Oct. 25.
