2 firefighters injured in fire at Canton heating and cooling business

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – Two firefighters were hurt while battling a commercial structure fire in Canton Sunday evening.

The Canton Fire Department responded to the blaze at Hey Neighbor Heating and Cooling on Wallace Avenue NE around 7:18 p.m. after a neighbor noticed flames in the area and called 911.

When they got there, crews found heavy fire conditions coming through the roof of the building.

Fire officials say the roof and part of the wall on the north side of the building collapsed five minutes after they arrived on the scene.

According to investigators, “several explosions were encountered during suppression from acetylene and oxygen tanks stored inside the facility.”

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were checked out at the scene.

The fire department said AEP, Dominion Gas and the Canton City Water Department were called out to “isolate the utilities to the building.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
