    Fitch softball wins third straight district title

    AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Austintown Fitch softball took down Chardon 8-0 for its third consecutive Division I District Championship at Youngstown State University on Wednesday.

    The defending state champions came out firing with three runs in the first inning after the help of an Abby Toth triple that brought home the first two runs of the game. Toth also added a double and three total RBIs.

    “Third straight year, that’s something that is just top for us, that we’re just so excited and so thankful for our community,” head coach Steve Ward said. “For all the fans that come out, for our administrators, for our central office, board members, everybody comes out, everybody’s Falcon softball crazy and we’re very appreciative of it.”

    Fitch ace Sydnie Watts struck out 16 batters across 7 shutout innings. She also added three this and two runs batted in at the plate for the Falcons.

    “It’s great having the community support because being that we’re so close to home, this is just like another home to us,” Watts said. “And having so many of our like fans, parents here, it just it just feels great coming back here and winning and doing it again.”

    Also for the Falcons: Kaliana Ray registered three hits and an RBI, YSU commit Ayla Ray picked up two hits and Kylie Folkwein also drove in a run.

    Fitch, currently ranked #4 in Division I, improved to 19-1 overall, have won 15 straight games and are 40-1 combined the past two seasons.

    Next, they advance to take on Amhert Steele in the regional semifinals at the YSU Softball Complex on May 22 with a scheduled first pitch of 2:00 p.m.
