Canfield Rotary Club to help work on local venue

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – From paying for the Rotary building at Fair Park to contributing to the new library and the gazebo a few years ago, the Canfield Rotary Club is known for giving back to the community. Over the years, the parking lot at Fair Park has deteriorated, which is why Tuesday morning the Rotary is paying for a paving project to replace it.

Work began at 7:30 a.m. and is expected to be finished by the end of the day. While the parking lot will be out of commission for the day, the other side of the park will remain open.

Club Chair Anthony Nacarato said this project was on the city’s agenda for the past four years as a project to do if they had extra paving money, but every year it got delayed or pushed back. However this past year, the Canfield Rotary Club and Canfield Rotary Foundation started an endowment fund so they could work on projects in the community like this one.

Nacarato said they allocated $50,000 for the paving project. He said with the addition of the new pump track on the backside of the rotary building at the park, it was time for a call to action so people would start using it more often, and the city would get the biggest bang for their buck.

“The idea was that it’ll give us better access and give the community more availability to use the building, to use the park, to use the pump track, and make better use of the facilities,” Nacarato said.

He said on top of the endowment fund, the Rotary Club holds fundraisers like the lighting of the green and the Wine Gala coming up in August, which help pay for these types of projects.

“I’ve been here for about 20 years, and being part of Canfield Rotary since that time, and it just makes an impact in our community to make Canfield… Canfield,” he said.
