VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s the end of an era for some local students.

Browns sign speedy wide receiver to roster

Elementary school students in Mathews School District will soon be united under one roof. To celebrate, students from Currie and Baker Elementary had a party. The two schools teamed up to tackle challenges, play games and enjoy activities like painting in a Field Day-style event. Officials from ODNR were even on hand to showcase some Wild-Life and ensure there was still some learning happening.

“It is very unique,” said Speech Language Pathologist Carla Pacileo. “We have closed buildings before in the district. Our middle school closed several years ago but this is the first time we’ve done this with elementary where we’re actually closing a building and we are all going to reunite in this building here together.”

Currie Elementary School is closing thanks to a new addition at Baker. Roughly 300 students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be taught under one roof.
