Guardians lose another starting pitcher to injury

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The Cleveland Guardians have placed starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco on the 15-day injured list with an acute neck spasm.

Carrasco was slated to start Tuesday night against the Mets but was scratched. This season, Carrasco is 2-4 with a 5.16 ERA for Cleveland.

The Guardians have recalled pitcher Xzavion Curry from Triple-A Columbus to take Carrasco’s spot on the roster. He returns to Cleveland, after spending the majority of the 2024 season in the minor leagues.

Curry made one start for the Guardians earlier this season, tossing five shutout innings, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts.

This season at Triple-A, he has posted a record of 0-5 with an 8.79 ERA. In 28.2 innings of work, he has allowed 28 earned runs on 38 base hits. He has struck out 27 batters.

The Guardians have suffered multiple injuries to starting pitchers, including Shane Bieber (out for the season following Tommy John surgery), and Gavin Williams (rehabbing from elbow soreness).
