HERMITAGE, Pa. , (WKBN) – Laurel Technical Institute announced its new Culinary Arts specialized associate’s degree program offered at the Sharon satellite campus.

The previous Culinary Arts program will be elevated from a diploma to a 16-month associate’s degree designed for those seeking an accelerated, college-level curriculum with a culinary and restaurant focus, according to a press release.

The program will be taught on campus, three days a week and can be completed within 16 months with 63 credits.

The associate’s program includes updated courses in baking, pastry & dessert essentials, American regional cuisines, introduction to hospitality management, and international cuisines and continues to offer on and off-site internships.

LTI has local partnerships such as The Avalon Country Club, Joy Baking Group, The Grand Resort and other restaurants that students may intern with during their education or upon career placement.

Career exploration is another key focus of the program, requiring 400-hour off-site internship placements.

After completing the program, students are eligible to sit for the American Culinary Federation’s Certified Culinarian exam which validates knowledge and skills and makes them a more valuable candidate for the workforce.
