SHARPSVILLE, Pa. (WKBN) – A mural that’s been years in the making is finally nearing completion.

It’s all part of Sharpsville’s 150th-anniversary celebration set to take place next year.

The festivities include a new mural that will be unveiled on the wall of the volunteer fire department. It features some unique elements of Sharpsville’s history, like the Pierce Mansion, imagery of the city’s fire trucks and even a nod to the area’s role in the steel industry.

The mural itself was painted across multiple panels and will be revealed on June 14.

“I’m from Sharpsville. I’m a native of Sharpsville. It’s really cool to put the mark on the down and dress it up a little bit. If you want your town to be better, you can’t leave, or you leave and find cool things about other towns and you come back and apply to your town to kind of make things better,” said Christian Kuharik, mural artist.

It’s not the first time that Kuharik worked on a large-scale mural. He was also involved in painting the display on the side of the old Reyers building in Sharon.

Love it. Many times, I walked from where my mom worked, corner 1st street and main. Can't remember how old i would have been going to the drug store for a chocolate coke and an Archie comic book or walking down to see Grandpa on north 11th street. Plus, I walked to Shenango Inc, to get my dad. Visiting the general store, I can't re the name. Those buildings are all gone.So many memories. Sharpsville became my second home since mom worked for Palo floral, along with having aunts, uncles, and cousins there.
