Mathews softball returns to states versus Monroeville

VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mathews Mustangs are back in the state tournament following its’ win over Canton Central Catholic this past Friday.

The Mustangs, coached by Jim Nicula, will be pitted against the Monroeville Eagles this Thursday in the state semifinal from Akron.

Monroeville (23-6) vs. Mathews, #8 (23-7)

Winner to meet either Strasburg-Franklin, #1 or Minster, #2 in the state championship on Saturday, June 1 at 10 am.

Game Notes
The Mustangs defeated Canton Central Catholic, 4-1, from North Ridgeville on Friday to secure its trip to the states. Mathews utilized a 3-run first inning, thanks to Maddy Hufford’s two-run double.

Last year, the Mustangs post-season ended in the Regional Final to Gibsonburg.

-Mathews who’s played one of the most difficult out-of-conference schedules once again began the season with a 4-3 mark.

-Madison Reiber hit a solo home run in the top of the 7th inning of its Regional Final to get by Carey, 6-5.
