(WKBN) – It’s going to be a busy summer for road work.

Mahoning County Engineer Pat Ginnetti said roughly $25 million in various road and bridge projects will be underway, including the ongoing work along Western Reserve Road between Hitchcock Road and South Avenue.

Ginnetti said the amount is higher than in previous years, in part, because of the scope of the larger jobs, as well as the impact of inflation on the price of labor and materials.

“Our major construction projects are a combination of federal funds, state funds, local matches coming directly out of our budget. You know, a lot of times, these bigger projects, we’re going to try to pull money from every pot we can to minimize the impact to our own budget,” Ginnetti said.

Some of the bigger projects that drivers will see this summer will continue to involve work widening Western Reserve Road between Market Street and South Avenue. That project is not expected to finish until the spring of 2026.

In addition, a pair of small bridges along Dobbins Road near Poland High School will be replaced starting next month, and the Early Road Bridge in Youngstown will be replaced starting in July.
