YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 100-year-old building across the river from downtown Youngstown has been demolished.

The demolition started Wednesday morning at the corner of Marshall Street and Oak Hill Avenue.

The structure was built in 1917.  Mike Durkin, superintendent of code enforcement and blight remediation, said the building had been vacant for a while and cracks had formed in the block walls which were buckling and starting to collapse.

Our Community Kitchen is across the street, so the decision was made to demolish the building because of its close proximity to the sidewalk and street.
