LISBON, OHIO (WKBN) – Starting in August, the Columbiana County General Health District is offering a new cancer detection service.

Free lung screenings are being made available for those who live within the health district’s jurisdiction, which includes all of Columbiana County, except for Salem City and East Liverpool City. Surrounding counties are also excluded.

Patients need to be between 50 and 80 years old are currently smoking or have quit in the past 15 years.

“Lung cancer is the top cancer in Columbiana County. It accounts for 15% of all reported cancers, so that’s why it’s really important. Obviously, early detection is key, so what is recommended for those eligible is yearly screenings,” said Laura Fauss, environmental director for the Columbiana County General Health District.

To receive a lung cancer screening, residents can call the Columbiana County Health District Office. From there, they will make sure you are eligible and help set up the appointment.

The screenings are in partnership with East Liverpool City Hospital.
