YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The 15th annual Panerathon in downtown Youngstown is less than two weeks away and there’s still time to sign up.

The event is a 10k run and a 2-mile fun run or walk on Aug. 25. It started 14 years ago and has raised more than $4.5 million.

Money goes to the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley and supports the Joannie Abdu Breast Care Center at Saint Elizabeth Hospital.

“The idea behind the event is to support those who have breast cancer. I think we all can relate to someone whether it’s a mom, a sister, an aunt or a neighbor that has been affected by this. So it’s a day of hope and compassion for one another and really raising money for a good cause,” said Candace Madden with the Mercy Health Foundation.

Pick-up for pre-race packets happens next Thursday, Aug. 22 outside the Phantom’s Team Shop at the Covelli Centre from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

The big event is Sunday, Aug. 25 starting at the Covelli Centre.

Organizers say while there has been a lot going on downtown, it won’t affect the routes for the Panerathon and the courses will remain the same.

“I think this makes the Panerathon even more important this year because the community needs a reason to come together and support one another,” said Sarah Dubos, Mercy Health Foundation.

    The 10K starts at 10 a.m. and the 2-mile run/walk starts at 10:05 a.m. Registration on race day begins at 8 a.m.

The deadline to register for a team is Friday night.

Online registration is available on the Panerathon’s website.
