    Sharon Speedway to host Lou Blaney Memorial fundraiser

    HARTFORD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – The Sharon Speedway will host the 16th annual Lou Blaney Memorial to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Aug. 17.

    2023 NASCAR Cup Series Champion Ryan Blaney will be making an appearance. Blaney’s Championship trophy will also be at the Sharon Speedway to see.

    The Lou Blaney Memorial celebrates the life of the Hall of Fame racecar driver who won more than 600 races. Lou passed away battling Alzheimer’s in 2009.

    Lou Blaney is the father of Sharon Speedway owner, Dave Blaney, and the grandfather of current NASCAR driver Ryan Blaney.

    The event will include a raffle and silent auction. The silent auction is live to view with bidding beginning Saturday morning, Aug. 17. Items available will be NASCAR and Blaney racing family memorabilia.

    Funds raised from the event will be donated to the Mahoning Valley and Rowan-Cabarrus Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

    The pits will be open with passes going on sale at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. General admission also opens at 3 p.m. Motor heat starts at 6:15 p.m. and warm-ups are at 6:30 p.m.

    Races will feature 410 Sprint Cars and BRP Tour Modified cars. Qualifying and racing starts once the warm-ups have concluded.

    Grandstand admission for those 14 years old and over is $30. Children under 14 and parking are free. The event opens at the Sharon Speedway at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17.
