Foot Locker closing Wednesday at Eastwood Mall

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Foot Locker at the Eastwood Mall will close at the end of business Wednesday.

The store has been a staple at the mall for decades.

Foot Locker announced in March 2023 that it was closing 400 stories at mall locations as part of a new business plan and reset for the company that will feature new store formats including:

• 15,000-square-foot “community” stores designed for areas with a “strong affinity for sneakers”
• 10,000-square-foot “power” stores designed to provide an “elevated experience” in areas with a “broad set of consumers”
• 1,500-square-foot “House of Play” stores focused more on children

Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for the Cafaro Company, said Kids Foot Locker is doing well at the mall and will continue to operate and that plans are in the works for the open space.

“The mall’s leasing department is continually talking with retailers who may be interested in establishing a location at the mall. We don’t have any finalized deals for that space yet,” Bell said.

Johnny Chechitelli, director of marketing and communications for the Eastwood Mall said along with Kids Foot Locker, there are other options for sports footwear at the mall.

“JD Sports is a large format store at approximately 9,000 square feet, making it nearly three times the size of Foot Locker,” Chechitelli said. “Also recently opened was HYPE, which has locations throughout Northeast Ohio but its first and only location in the Mahoning Valley is here at Eastwood Mall. HYPE and JD Sports are just two of eleven different options for shoe shoppers at the Eastwood Mall Complex.”
