CLEVELAND (WJW) — On Wednesday, Northeast Ohio said goodbye to the man who helped create the biggest sports franchises in Cleveland history.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians owner Nick Mileti died Wednesday morning, family members confirmed to FOX 8’s Dan Coughlin.

    He was 93.

Mileti was a local attorney who, in 1968, bought the old Cleveland Barons pro hockey team and the Cleveland Arena.

Not long after that, he bought the Indians, founded the Cavaliers and the Cleveland Crusaders major league hockey team.

He then built the legendary Richfield Coliseum.

Mileti eventually left Cleveland in 1979 for Beverly Hills, where he produced and financed plays and movies, then he made his way back to Northeast Ohio.
