YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The City of Youngstown is looking for a jingle for the city’s marketing campaign. Entries were opened to the public earlier this summer .

WKBN spoke to a local man who entered the contest about the creative process behind his entry.

Paul Sheehan, 57, of Hubbard, said he has been playing the guitar for about 40 years. When he heard about the contest, he figured he would give it a try.

“So I picked up my guitar, and I wanted to call it ‘The City of You.’ I knew that was their slogan, and I picked up my guitar and it just came out,” he said.

He described it as a mini pop song and said the idea is to break people’s misconceptions about the city.

“People from outside of the city, they get an idea that’s wrong about Youngstown. It’s not some dangerous town. I mean, they’ve had their ups and downs and their bad times now… but it just seems like now it’s a lot different than what people think, and there are a lot of great things happening in the city,” Sheehan said.

The deadline to submit a jingle is August 24.

The chosen artist will have their licensing fee paid for.

Songwriters can submit their creations for consideration by emailing them to mcpenella@youngstownohio.gov.
