YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Several special guests made an appearance at the Mahoning County Democratic Party’s annual picnic and family fun night Friday at the Maronite Center’s Recreation Pavillion.

Special guests include Dr. Amy Acton, Justices Michael Donnelly and Melody Stewart, and Judge Lisa Forbes.

As the former director of the Ohio Department of Health, Acton helped lead Ohio’s early COVID-19 response. Acton told First News she is “strongly” considering running for Ohio governor in 2026 but for now is focused on the upcoming November election and helping the candidates in her party.

She shared her deliberations with reporters during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Tuesday.

Chris Anderson, Mahoning County Democratic Party chair, said Acton is trying to be a team player and bring some normalcy back to the government.

“It’s just a good fellowship opportunity to get together and hear from elected officials. It’s so great to see so many new people here as well,” Anderson said.

The local picnic was the third of three campaign stops Friday and featured a hot pepper contest, face painting, food and more.

Patty Coller contributed to this report.
