CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – There are a number of long-standing traditions associated with the 178-year-old Canfield Fair, but some are not as old as the rest.

This is only the 24th year amateur wine-makers have offered up some of their own creations to be judged. Workers were busy setting up their display Monday after awarding ribbons to the winning varieties and choosing the Best in Show.

Organizer Penny Less said judges are professionals who know a thing or two about wines.

“They’re either winery owners, restaurant owners or distributors of wine. They came in and they did a 20-point system. If you have a perfect wine, it gets 20 points and down from there,” Less said.

A total of 94 bottles were entered. In the end, one of the wines submitted by Danica Hoogstad of Sandy Lake in Mercer County was chosen Best in Show. Another of her varieties also won a blue ribbon.

You can see all the entries on display inside the Hay and Grain Building starting this Wednesday.
