    200-yard rushers headline Week One Contenders for WKBN Big 22

    YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Week One of the high school football season is in the books, and several players around the Valley made a great first impression.

    Watch the video above to see some of the early contenders for our WKBN Big 22.

    Howland picked up their first win in nearly two years, thanks in part to Davae Honzu . He rushed for over 130 yards and scored three times in their win over rival Niles Thursday night.

    East Palestine lit up the scoreboard with 45 points, their most in six years, with Owen Jurjavcic leading the way. He accounted for 228 yards rushing, 138 passing and five total touchdowns against Newton Falls.

    Keegan White also eclipsed 200 yards rushing and scored four times in Jackson Milton’s win over Mathews.

    Lowellville’s Geno Perry ran wild against Columbiana, piling up a staggering 266 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

    Our Player of the Game from Friday night was Hubbard’s Alex Hackwelder . The Eagles quarterback passed for 189 yards, rushed for 110, and accounted for six touchdowns in their win over Brookfield in our WKBN Game of the Week.
