WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man told police that he was shot at while trying to stop someone for stealing his car from a carport.

Officers were called just before 3 a.m. Sunday to the 2700 block of Dunstan Drive NW after a woman reported that someone shot at her husband. When officers arrived, they talked to the husband who was holding a handgun which officers secured.

The husband said his wife saw something on their surveillance camera, which was pointed at their car since someone had recently tried stealing it. The man said when he went outside to check it out, he saw someone near his neighbor’s car, which is also a Kia. The man said he yelled, “Hey, what the f*** are you doing?” He said two people ran out from near the car and fired shots at him, according to a police report.

The husband said he did not return fire.

Police noted that the husband’s Kia had a busted-out rear window from a previous theft attempt, and the neighbor’s Kia had the passenger window busted out and the steering column peeled.

Officers also located two shell casings on the ground near the carport.

The surveillance video was turned over to police and the husband’s handgun was returned to him.

    The incident is under investigation.
