WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – With Labor Day approaching, it may seem like summer is winding down but Wednesday’s temperature suggests otherwise.

TCAP’s Summer Crisis Program is still available to help Trumbull County residents cool down but time is running out.

Applicants could receive an air conditioner or fans, help with repairs for central air conditioning, and even assistance with their electricity costs.

To qualify, someone in the home needs to be 60 years old or older. If you’re under 60, there needs to be a documented medical condition.

Officials say they’ve seen a surge in people using the program.

“It’s the rise in rent. It’s the rise in utilities. It’s the rise in groceries, gas and household necessities. People are not able to afford life right now,” said T-Cap Assistant Supervisor Tracy Pasillas.

Anyone whose electricity has either been shut off or is in threat of disconnection is also eligible. The program helps between 1,000 and 1,200 residents each year.
