Boardman School board announces new member

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Boardman School Board voted Wednesday to appoint a new board member to fill a vacant seat left by Frank Zetts.

They appointed Tom Varley in a special board meeting Wednesday evening. He will fill the seat until December 31, 2025.

A press release from Boardman Local Schools says Varley is the Director of Human Resources for Compco Industries in Columbiana and will add strong business experience to the school board. As a human resources professional he will also provide knowledge on how to handle any personal issues that may arise.

According to the press release, Varley and his wife, Kim, have resided in Boardman for 12 years and have four children brought up within the Boardman School district.

Varley says he’s excited to be part of this team and experience the school district from every angle.

“I’ve been involved in athletic youth programs, boosters, and fundraising for teacher grants. This is an opportunity to work with a group of leaders focused on all of our Spartans’ success,” he said.

Of the 20 people who applied for the position, only 10 were interviewed last week.
