YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said a man tripped Wednesday and fell head-first into a police car when he tried to run away after police tried to take him into custody on several warrants.

Police also said they found a large amount of methamphetamine in a car belonging to the man. Jamel Patton, 29, was taken to the Mahoning County jail on the warrants as well as additional charges of possession of methamphetamine, a second-degree felony, possession of ecstasy, a third-degree felony and two fourth-degree felony counts of possession of drugs.

Patton is expected to be arraigned in municipal court on Friday.

Reports said Patton was spotted about 1:35 p.m. in the parking lot of an 1835 Mahoning Ave. gas station and police approached him because they knew he had warrants for his arrest.

Patton was taken into custody and cuffed and just after police asked if he had anything in his car they should know about, he tried to run away, reports said.

Reports said he only made it a few steps before he tripped, fell and hit his head on a police car.

When police searched his car they found the drugs in two plastic bags on the driver’s side of Patton’s car, including one large bag of methamphetamine, reports said. Police also found pills, fentanyl and crack cocaine, reports said.

Patton was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be examined after he fell, reports said.
