YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio has 900 nursing homes, and picking one to service your family can be overwhelming.

The Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) held a feedback forum at Youngstown State University on its navigator tool. It was one of seven scheduled across the state.

Governor Mike DeWine started a nursing home task force last year to help people find quality facilities and give families good information. Now, assisted living homes are being added.

The group gave feedback about the navigator tool and how people need to understand better the differences between nursing homes and assisted living.

“That’s why it’s exciting. We need to hear from people about what information they want to see, what’s going to be helpful to them, and what’s confusing. We want to make sure it’s a really user-friendly tool,” said Jamie Carmichael, ODA chief program officer.

Ohio has 3 million older adults.

There’s another feedback forum next week in Cleveland.
