    Man wanted for warrant in Girard arrested on new charges in Youngstown

    YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A man wanted on a warrant out of Girard Municipal Count was arrested in Youngstown for possession of a firearm despite the fact that he was not allowed to own one.

    Youngstown Police officers were on patrol in the area of E. Avondale Avenue when reports state they observed an SUV repeatedly swerving left of the center lines around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and pulled the vehicle over.

    The driver of the SUV, Daraeius Joy, told police he did not have a license due to a hold out of Girard Municipal Court for a separate incident that took place in Liberty Township, according to reports.

    When police searched Joy in the system, reports state he had an active warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation on the charge of improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle from his case in Girard court.

    When asked, Joy told police he had a pistol in the vehicle underneath the driver’s seat, which was recovered with a loaded magazine but no round in the chamber, reports state.

    During the search of the SUV, police also recovered a bottle with oxycodone pills with no prescription, reports state.

    Joy was arrested on the warrant as well as additional charges of driving under suspension, driving left of center, possession of drugs, having weapons under disability and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle in Youngstown Municipal Court.
