CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) — Canfield voters who expressed concern over the previous facility master plan for the Canfield Local School District will have the option to fund a revised plan come November.

The school district said after receiving community concerns over the previous facility master plan, it introduced a revised version that would be funded by a $64,190,000 bond issue. The issue is set to appear on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The district said in a release that the bond issue reflects its commitment to balancing the need for essential facility improvement with fiscal responsibility.

Homeowners will see a millage cost of $10.79 per month per $100,000 of appraised property value, according to the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office. This plan significantly reduces the financial impact on the community compared to prior proposals, according to a news release from the district.

“Our community has expressed its commitment to quality education. This bond issue reflects our efforts to provide a safe and effective learning environment for our students while also considering the fiscal concerns shared by our residents,” said Superintendent Joe Knoll in a statement.

The core of this plan focuses on constructing a new Canfield Village Middle School on the
current site, replacing the century-old facility that originally opened as Canfield High School in
1922. The revised plan also includes the renovation of Canfield High School, C.H. Campbell and Hilltop Elementary Schools.

According to the district, it plans to host informal sessions in the coming weeks to provide more information and answer any questions from voters.
