MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio (WKBN) – Mineral Ridge senior Ava Hulett has been a star in every sport she has played since she was a freshman.

“Everyone knows each other, makes you want to be more involved than ever,” said Hulett. “I love everyone here. Everyone’s so nice, and it’s just nice to feel part of something.”

The Rams star has been a three-sport athlete throughout her high school career. She is a four-year letter winner each on the volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams.

On the volleyball court, she is a captain for the 2024 season and has been starting for four years. As a freshman, she also received 2nd-Team All-conference. Then, as a sophomore, she made 1st-Team All-Conference and 2nd-Team All-District. Last season, as a junior Hulett improved to 1st-Team All-Conference and 1st-Team All-District.

She also tallied 1,000 digs as a junior and completed 1,000 kills recently in the 2024 season. Hulett has led Mineral Ridge volleyball teams, which have made it to the District Finals.

“It’s just a great feeling; I can’t even explain,” said Hulett. “Fierce, powerful, competitive, and just all of those things.”

Hulett is also a star on the basketball team being a four-year starter and four-year captain. For the 2024 season, she is 64 points away from 1,000 career points.

On the Mineral Ridge basketball team, she was awarded 1st-Team All-Conference as a freshman and sophomore. Last season, as a junior she received 1st-Team All-Conference, 1st-Team All-District, and was an honorable mention for All-State.

“It’s kind of like pressure on you, and I just like having like that pressure on me,” said Hulett. “That makes me feel like I can do better and it keeps me motivated.”

However, the three-sport athlete does her best work on the track having four varsity letters on the Track and Field team.

Hulett has made it to state her entire high school career in the 100-meter hurdles. In her freshman year, she was District Runner-Up and placed 15th in states at the 100m hurdles. Hulett’s actions made her the only freshman to make it to state for the 2022 season.

The Mineral Ridge athlete was a District and Regional Champion and placed 12th in state for the 100m hurdles as a sophomore. Last season, as a junior, she was District and Regional Champion again and placed 10th in state at the 100m hurdles.

In the 2024 track season, she competed in the 300-meter hurdles. In that event, she was the District Champion, Regional Runner-Up and placed seventh at state.

In addition to her 12 varsity letters, Hulett also participated in indoor track and club volleyball.

Outside of school, Hulett participates in History Club, Beta Club, and National Honors Society.

She also volunteers for the Mineral Ridge community helping her peers. She has volunteered at local churches putting together natural disaster and school supplies kits. Hulett also has helped at soup kitchens and youth basketball camps in the Valley.

The Mineral Ridge standout is also ultra-competitive in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA.

“Always wanted to do good in school,” said Hulett. “I won the honors diploma, too, and I’m hoping to get valedictorian.”

“Sports have definitely helped me to be more confident,” said Hulett. “Just have more confidence and that leadership role carries over to the classroom. So I try to help out as much as I can.”

You can see Hulett play next when the Mineral Ridge volleyball team plays at Springfield on Thursday, Sept. 5.
