SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) — A bridge replacement is planned for Sharon that will remove a steel structure and replace it with concrete.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced Friday that the bridge that carries South Dock Street (Route 718) over Pine Run will be replaced.

The bridge is located on South Dock Street between the intersection with Wayne Place and the roundabout intersection with East Connelly Boulevard. It carries about 7,000 vehicles a day and is in poor condition. It was built in 1923 and refurbished in 1990.

The plan for the bridge is to divert traffic so there will be minimal closures. A temporary turnaround will be constructed before the bridge work begins and will extend through the existing industrial parking lot on the west side of the project and will include access for pedestrians.

Work is expected to occur during the 2026 construction season.

Plans for the construction can be viewed online where comments can be posted. The comment section will be active through Sept. 20, 2024. Those unable to access the information online may give feedback by contacting PennDOT Project Manager Kyle Barker at kybarker@pa.gov or 814-678-7166.
