WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — The woman who nearly drowned while kayaking in Warren four years ago has passed away.

According to her obituary, Lisa Zitello passed away at the Austin Woods Nursing Center on Aug. 23.

Back in May of 2020, Zitello was kayaking on the Mahoning River and became stuck in the current of the Summit Street Dam. She had been in a coma ever since.

Two years ago, her family sued the city for negligence . Attorneys claimed buoys warning of the dam’s danger washed away and weren’t replaced before Zitello’s kayaking trip.

Court records show the lawsuit has since been settled.
