COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) — Columbiana County middle schoolers interested in string instruments can join a new program.

Columbiana County resident Keturah Hamilton is hosting affordable rehearsals for kids in grades six through 12. The rehearsals will be low-pressure, class-like sessions.

Hamilton has been playing string instruments since she was little and has been in multiple symphonies. Now, she wants to focus on teaching others. She said when she first wanted to learn there was nothing available in Columbiana County.

“I had told my mom when I was four years old that I wanted to learn how to play the violin, and she searched for years to find a teacher, and there were no teachers that did string instruments in our area. If kids are not taking lessons with me, then they’re probably not taking lessons at all or they’re having to travel, which is difficult,” Hamilton said.

The first session will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Sept. 16 at Heartland Christian School. The cost is $35 for the year. To sign up and receive more info, email columbianacountysymphonette@gmail.com.
