ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – A Canfield man was killed Saturday in Ashtabula County after driving off the side of a roadway during a rain storm, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers announced in a Sunday morning press release that 43-year-old Peter Raptis was driving a three-wheel 2020 Polaris Slingshot along state Route 45 in Morgan Township when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and hit a tree shortly after 4 p.m.

Officials said Raptis and a passenger in the autocycle, identified as 47-year-old Kelly McCormick, of Campbell, were thrown from the vehicle. Both were transported to a nearby hospital where Raptis was later pronounced dead, according to the release.

There has been no word on the condition of the passenger.

    The crash remains under investigation.
