Animal Charity of Ohio to host Mutt Strut 5K

COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) — Animal Charity of Ohio will host its second annual Athletix Mutt Strut 5K Run and Walk from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Town Center at Firestone Farms.

Registration is $30 and open till Thursday on the Athletix Sports Complex’s website . Attendees can also do a two-mile fun run and walk instead of the 5K.

“You can walk a dog, you can run with a dog, you can run without a dog, and all 100% of the entry fees are going to support Animal Charity. There’s going to be different vendors there selling things, fundraising — our team will be there, we’ll have adoptable animals there,” said Jane MacMurchy, a coordinator with Animal Charity of Ohio.

After the race, attendees can play with puppies, check out the NAPA Know How Car Show and more. The top three overall male and female runners will receive cash prizes, and the first 100 finishers are guaranteed a medal.

The event comes as the charity has been asking for donations as it’s running low on much-needed supplies.

The charity is also lowering its adoption fees for the rest of the month, with cats and small or senior animals free to adopt. Dog adoptions are $95, and all applicants need to be approved to take home a pet.
