Man arrested in connection to child death in fatal crash

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A man wanted in connection to the death of a 12-year-old out of Youngstown was arrested by U.S. Marshals Tuesday.

Brandon Kennedy, 31, was wanted by the Youngstown Police Department for aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault, according to a release from the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.

YPD issued a warrant for Kennedy’s arrest on Monday. Within a day of the warrant’s issuance, he was arrested in the 20 block of Broadview Avenue in Girard.

On Nov. 17, 2023, Kennedy was driving at a high rate of speed in a residential area of Youngstown when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Juanita and Alameda avenues, striking another car as it passed through the intersection.

A 12-year-old boy who had been a passenger in Kennedy’s vehicle died as a result of the crash.

Court records show Kennedy is also charged with operation in willful wanton disregard of the safety of persons or property and driving under FRA suspension. Records have not yet been updated to reflect his next court appearance.
