AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Work has started on the former JCPenney along Mahoning Avenue in Austintown.

Construction equipment and fencing are around the building and crews were tearing down an exterior wall Wednesday. Work on the interior has already begun.

The space will be divided into two stores — Grocery Outlet and Five Below.

No word yet on when either store will open.

There’s also a lot of progress in the construction of the Meijer along Mahoning Avenue. The walls are up and crews are starting to fill in the parking lot.

The store is set to be 160,000 square feet. It’s expected to open next May.
