CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – The Cleveland Guardians are placing veteran starting pitcher Alex Cobb on the 15-day injured list with a right middle finger blister.

Cobb has appeared in three games for the Guardians since being acquired in a trade with the Giants.

He has posted a record of 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA. He has struck out 10 batters in 16.1 innings.

In a corresponding move, Cleveland is promoting reliever Andrew Walters from Triple-A Columbus.

Walters is ranked as the Guardians’ No. 22 overall prospect by MLB.com and was selected by Cleveland in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Miami.

He has split the season between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. The right-hander has posted a record of 4-0 with a 2.32 ERA, striking out 79 batters in 50 innings with 8 saves.

Walters has turned in 15 straight scoreless appearances since July 30, striking out 16 batters while allowing just five hits. Opposing batters are hitting just .116 off him during that span.

The 23-year-old is the first member of the Guardians 2023 draft class to join the Major League club.

The Guardians host the Rays on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. on FOX Youngstown.
