YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A 75-year-old man is expected to be arraigned in municipal court Monday after reports said he was arrested for OVI while driving the wrong way on Interstate 680.

John Rosa Jr. was released on a summons for a charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was taken into custody after police and troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol were called about 12:35 a.m. to the freeway for a report of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 680.

Reports said an officer found a car on the shoulder next to the center divider in the northbound lane of the freeway facing south near the Himrod Avenue Expressway. Reports said the driver, later identified as Rosa, smelled heavily of alcohol and was slurring his words.

When asked how much he had to drink, reports said he told the officer he had a “bottle of wine” earlier.

Reports said Rosa appeared “apprehensive” about taking a field sobriety test and was put in a cruiser. He later agreed to take the test, reports said. Reports said he almost fell over and he could not follow any of the instructions, so the test was halted and he was taken to the police department for a breath test.

Reports said Rosa agreed to the breath but did not perform the test properly so a proper reading could not be obtained from the machine.

Police seized Rosa’s license after they charged him because his license was suspended immediately, reports said.
