STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – There was a little friendly competition among classes in the Struthers City School District this week — all to promote a common message: to stay in school.

Students in the elementary, middle and high schools were asked to decorate classroom doors and hallways to stress the advantages of attending class and graduating.

The district also teamed up with the Cleveland Browns organization, which supplied items for the students to receive as incentives.

“We’re trying to really combat that idea of what’s called ‘chronic attendance’ through the state, meaning we want… all of our kids to come to school, and we want to be able to help them with the things that they need to be successful here,” said Sarah Herrholtz, said director of student achievement.

Administrators invited a group of judges to look over the decorations, including Struthers Mayor Catherine Miller and the police and fire chiefs.
