YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning County Coroner’s office released the identity of the man shot and killed by officers in an incident at the Dollar General on Belmont Avenue.

Shane Linderman, 50, was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy was conducted at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police responded shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday on reports of a man, now identified as Linderman, who stabbed himself and a woman inside the store.

When officers arrived, a statement from Police Chief Carl Davis said they encountered a man with a stab wound and a woman with a severe stab wound who was unresponsive. During the encounter, Chief Davis said an officer discharged his firearm, killing Linderman.

The woman was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and remains in critical condition per a Wednesday update.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) was called to conduct an independent investigation, and the Youngstown Police Department Internal Affairs Division will conduct an internal investigation.
