YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown announced that Scouting organizations will no longer meet in any of its churches or schools.

Bishop David Bonnar said in a statement last week that Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies will no longer meet or hold activities, including recruiting events, on Diocese of Youngstown premises.

He cited insurance coverage and potential liability as reason for the change, as well as “changes in Scouting itself.”

Bonnar also said that parish and school officials will not serve as charter organizations in their official capacities.

This policy decision will not affect religious activities and awards available to Scouts through the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, he said.
