Jury selection underway in rape trial involving former officer

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — In Trumbull County, jury selection is underway in the trial against a former Warren police officer accused of sexually assaulting six women.

Michael Edwards Jr. faces several charges, including two dozen counts of rape dating back to December 2019. He is accused of victimizing the women while on duty.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment in April.

Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman described Edwards as “the most prolific serial rapist in Trumbull County history.”
